MADANI Civil Society Support Initiative is a five-year USAID-funded project implemented by FHI 360. MADANI aims to strengthen local government accountability and community tolerance and openness in Indonesia by enhancing and sustaining the capacity, legitimacy, and sustainability of local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). MADANI works towards this objective by collaborating with local civil society organizations (CSOs) in its targeted districts. These “Lead Partners” receive technical assistance through a pool of expert trainers, as well as financial assistance and support to organize Learning Forums. The Learning Forums are designed to build partnerships among CSOs, LGs, media, and the private sector to strengthen CSOs’ capacity to advocate for government accountability and communal tolerance. MADANI will facilitate improved collaboration between local governments and civil society organizations by promoting the benefits of partnerships and providing clarity and guidance to local governments on regulations and policies that promote civil society collaboration.

To achieve the objectives of the survey, REDI assigned eight phone callers who contacted a list of actors who were identified as partners of the Learning Forums. The lists were prepared by the MADANI Lead Partners. The listed actors were engaged in the Learning Forum activities and not only located at the district level, but might also at the national level, including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), government officials, women representatives, higher education institutions, community/religious leaders around specific thematic areas targeted by MADANI Lead Partner’s Learning Forum.

The SNA Endline Survey was conducted using a data collection method through telephone interviews (Computer-assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) with listed actors in Tools A. The SNA Endline Survey was carried out in 31 MADANI partner districts in six provinces in Indonesia, namely: West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sulawesi, Banten and West Kalimantan. The survey was successfully carried out with the results of 851 out of 999 actors being successfully surveyed or showing an actor response rate of 85.12% percent of the entire survey.
